The other group are photos of Berlin before and after WWII acquired in 1955 when John A. Zalonis served in Aschaffenburg, Germany. The Pacific Theater photos are "stock" Signal Corps and Navy photos reproduced and sold as souvenirs to service personnel. They show some of the more macabre aspects of war - dead bodies, mutilated bodies, bodies washed ashore, bodies burned from flame throwers, etc. Others show natives of the Philippine Islands and both Filipino and Japanese prisoners. The nationhood photos are of the ceremony dealing with the inauguration of the nation of the Philippines, prominent among the participants being General Douglas MacArthur. Those of Berlin show the beautiful architecture and parks of the capitol city and the destruction and devastation of those same sites as a result of the bombing and land fight for the city.
